INGER ODGAARD
Inger Odgaard's works are spatial and transparent sculptures, comprising intricate compositions of holes, spaces, and in-betweens. Her recent series, "New Skin," she seamlessly merges knitted textile forms with solid sculptures, juxtaposing the hard and the soft, the open and the closed.
Her creations take shape through the interplay of yarn and stitches, then the final shape emerges through immersion in material baths. The sculptures morphe the once-fragile and predictable knit into a robust, abstract figure. resulting in knitted forms that evoke a mesmerizing transparency of threads and spaces.

Through the process of immersing the knitted structure in hardening material baths, the outcome takes on a spontaneous, organic shape reminiscent of something found in nature. The expert incorporation of soft knitted elements adds intentionality to the form, yet both the soft and hard components maintain a common thread of featuring intricate patterns of holes.
The knitted framework of each sculpture serves as a canvas for transformation. By introducing diverse materials and adding new layers, Odgaard orchestrates a dialogue about the sculpture's configuration. Her artistry shapes a journey from one state to another, from one place to another. As some holes in the knit close while others remain open, the sculpture's form and shadow evolve, altering the inner space.
