SARA KICKMAYER

Throughout the course of natural evolution, an intricate connection has existed among shape, structure, material, and growth. The goal is to embrace a circular approach to creation, mirroring the sustainable patterns observed in the natural world.

Growing up in a quaint mountain village in southern Austria, Sara Kickmayer developed a profound connection to nature and traditional craftsmanship.

Kickmayer's work embodies the fusion of ancient wisdom in responsibly sourcing materials from nature and skillfully transforming them into valuable handcrafted artifacts. She constantly seeks harmony among the human body, nature, and the garments themselves, with a particular focus on Knitwear. Through innovative techniques, she has pioneered the creation of garments that honor nature's principles and traditional craftsmanship while leaving no waste behind. These modular, transformable textile structures are crafted from raw, unprocessed, and regenerated materials, reflecting her commitment to sustainable and symbiotic design.

Kickmayer's design philosophy is rooted in nature's principles, emphasizing minimal waste, the utilization of locally sourced materials, and the integration of pre-consumer waste into the design cycle.

In her 3D-knitted she employs recycled wool yarns, incorporating pre-consumer waste into her collection, including cashmere and merino wool remnants. This approach allows for 3D shaping directly on the knitting machine, eliminating waste.

Her diverse silhouettes are designed for transformation, allowing them to adapt to various sizes, shapes, and forms, promoting an evolutionary approach to clothing rather than static design. Much of Sara's collection is crafted from pure or regenerated wool, a natural material known for its sustainability and biodegradability. Some garments feature untreated raw fibers personally sourced and processed by Sara showing the entire journey in a single knitted piece emphasizing the process and material's transparency.
